Last Friday, our family got a little smaller. Bruce "Bruceky" "Gramps" Searle was a devoted, kind man who never missed an opportunity to teach and mentor.
In a way we had lost Bruce long before last Friday. Alzeimers robbed him of his memory and then his ability to control his body and finally his ability to communicate. It was heart-wrenching to witness and care for him and a relief that he is now at peace. Now we can focus our memories on the mild-mannered, joyful man who was first, foremost and always a teacher.
When I remember Bruce, it will always be of him laughing. He was a wonderful grandfather. Catherine credits him with her love of art - thanks to hours of colouring together. Even as he started to slip away, this continued a beloved practice with Catherine and Wren.
He is dearly missed but continues to live on in our memories.
Good-bye “Gramps,” may you rest in peace.
