Obituary of Victor Charles Whiteley
It is with great sadness that Vic’s family shares his peaceful passing at Parkview Home. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet (nee Lawrie), his dear 3 J’s Jennifer & Mike, Jacqui, and Joanne & Darrin. “Pa” was namesake to grandson, Shepherd who shares his love of fishing. Brother to Karen Hicks and special “brother” to Tom Hollingworth.
Vic, Born in England to Ernie and Phyllis, arrived in Canada at age 15 with his cricket bat, always wondering why he didn’t bring a fishing rod! Not happy living in Toronto, Vic moved in with the Hollingworths in Box Grove until his marriage to Janet and residing on Main St. N. for 53 years before moving down the street to their Wilson Street condo, still within the village. Vic enjoyed working on their heritage home and took directions well for the creation of the perennial gardens and rock placements. He excelled at working with his hands, first as a lift truck mechanic, then as the “Happy Stripper” restoring antiques and creating replicas, Vic was well known for his craftsmanship. Vic was respected for taking care of elderly neighbours’ needs and continued looking out for his fellow residents in LTC. “Trout Fish Inn” on Kennisis Lake since ’68 was Vic’s happy place. The lake trout and bass can relax. The expert angler has pulled his boat ashore.
Visitation is Friday, September 2nd 4-7 P.M. at Dixon Garland, with service on Saturday, September 3rd at 11 A.M. in the chapel
We are thankful for the compassion, resect and care poured out by staff members at his “home”. Vic gave staff and residents reasons to smile and laugh. They will surely miss his whistling!
