Obituary of David Beveridge Herriot

1929-2025 It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of David Beveridge Herriot, age 95, on January 5th, 2025 in Markham, Ontario. David was born on October 1st, 1929 in Tillicoultry, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1953. David’s greatest love was his family. He was married for 42 wonderful years to his beloved wife Jessie Patricia Herriot, and together they raised three children Deborah Ann Herriot-Howes, Sara Lynne O’Donnell and Charles David Herriot. He was a loyal, deeply devoted, loving and supportive father. He was a kind, gentle and compassionate man. In addition to his three children, David was blessed with two son-in-laws Mark O’Donnell and Phil Howes and a daughter-in-law Kay Herriot, all who he cherished deeply as members of his family. He also adored his four loving granddaughters, Jessie Deborah O’Donnell, Kelly Patricia O’Donnell, Lily Catherine O’Donnell and Hillary Colina Herriot and his great granddaughter Leah Rain Mistry. As a grandfather he was a guiding light offering wisdom, support and encouragement to his grandchildren. Known to all his grandchildren as Papa including his grandson-in-law Anand Mistry and Lily’s boyfriend Kent Stevens, his warmth and humour will forever live in their hearts. David was a graduate of the University of Toronto and had a deep appreciation for the value of education. Fiercely loyal to those he loved, David’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He was kind, gracious and a true gentleman with a deep sense of integrity. His presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him. After the passing of his beloved wife, David found companionship and support in his relationship with Pamela Erskine, who brought him joy, comfort, and sincere devotion in his later years. David was an avid reader, enjoyed music and singing especially in the company of family and friends. David was also known for his love of a hot cup of tea and enjoyed several daily. David lived a full and beautiful life grounded in love, loyalty and kindness. He leaves behind many cherished memories for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who carry his memory.
