Obituary of Walter Whitham

WHITHAM, Walter   January 18, 1927 – January 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Walter Whitham of Markham and Stouffville on January 5, 2025, at the age of 97 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Joan Rogers, his children Susan, Dan (Laurel) and Walter Junior. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren Meghan Edwards, Kelsey Edwards (Jeff Hayes); Ryan (Piper Morley), Kyle (Emily) and Tyler (Emma) Whitham; Katie (George) Naray, Kristen Shaylor, Amy (Charles) Lauzon and sixteen great- grandchildren.  Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Shirley (nee Parkinson); his sister Jean and brother-in-law William Hedge, his brother Bernard and sister-in-law Dorothy Whitham and his brother-in-law Albert Rogers. To his family, Walter was very much a renaissance man. From running a fishing lodge in Kenora as a newlywed; to training as a tool and die maker and advancing to Vice-President of Cochrane Tool and Design; to earning his Horticulture Diploma at Guelph University and running Whitham’s Tree Nursery in Markham, Walter accomplished much during his long and full lifetime. He enjoyed his retirement years travelling the world, relaxing at the family cottage on Fortescue Lake, and soaking up the warmth as a snowbird in Fort Myers, Florida. A celebration of life service for Walter will be held at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home in Markham, Saturday, January 18, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the service

starts at 1:00 pm. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Parkview Home in Stouffville for their amazing care and compassion over the past six years.
