Obituary of John Michael Evans

John Michael Evans born May 13, 1934, passed away peacefully at home on Friday November 27, 2020. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Margret (nee Harlow), his daughter Susan (Rob Pahl) and sons David (Corinne Helman), John (Alison Hermack). Cherished grandfather of Alexandra (Jordan Miller), Samantha, Nicole, Danielle, Cassidy and Brielle. Great Grandfather of Cameron, Emerson and Matthew. His sister Sylvia. John moved here as a young man from England and met his beloved wife Margret. They had a family, a home and many treasured memories together. John started his career as a draftsman then became a teacher. He was part of the team that started the first community college in Ottawa, Algonquin College. Later he worked in Human Resources for Canada Packers for many years, his engaging personality and love of teaching served him well in the field of management  development. John had a true passion for sports cars. He had an MG, Alfa Romeo, Opal, Miata, Fiat and the list goes on. His cars were in immaculate condition, always modified for the highest performance. The car engines were pristine. He enjoyed touring with his wife Margret as members of the Miata Club. John also loved sailing and was a member of the Highland Yacht Club, where he served a term as Commodore. Growing up in England with Welsh heritage, John had rugby in his blood. He loved to play and always loved to watch the game. John was a brilliant man with many interests and a tremendous sense of humour. He was a walking encyclopedia, doing the cryptic crosswords every day and twice on Sundays. He loved his family and had a special place in his heart for little ones. He knew the words to every song including Welsh chants and anthems. John will be missed by friends and family across the globe. We will hold a Celebration of John’s life at a later date. Those wishing to donate in John’s memory are asked to consider a charity of their choice.
