Harry Mason passed away at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto in his 75th year. Born to Harry and Mabel (Banks) Mason and raised in the ancestral home in the historic Village of Markham; during the bygone era of playing hockey outdoors in winter and baseball in summer, until the streetlights came on. A signal for all kids to go home.
Fitness played a major role in Harry’s after career life as a library technician. He ran many marathons, ultra marathons, and 100 mile races, often finishing among the elite. In later years cycling and gym workouts competed for his attention with his intense interests in art, literature, history, ballet, theology and philanthropy. Dominating all interests was his strong Christian faith which he demonstrated through his love and compassion for others.
Predeceased by brothers Ronald and William and sister Evelyn Michell. Survived and sadly missed by sister Leila Mason Thomson.
Harry resided for several years at L.A.C Senior Apartments on Parkdale Dr., Toronto where his long-time friends; Tom, Diane, Collette, Josie, and Colleen are saddened by Harry’s sudden journey to a better place. The street lights came on and Harry went home.
Graveside ceremony at Elmwood Cemetery in Markham has already occurred.
